Posting Summary
Rutgers New Jersey Medical School is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neuroscience within the laboratory of Dr. Joshua Berlin, Principal Investigator.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will participate in a joint research project studying cellular mechanisms causing acute hyperexcitability in cortical neurons following injury.
  • Assists with the maintenance of laboratory facilities, equipment, and instruments with a particular emphasis on the microscope-based image acquisition systems and image analysis hardware and software.
  • Adapts image analysis hardware and software to meet project requirements.
  • Performs other routine laboratory techniques including the implementation of an experimental epilepsy model related to anatomical and electrophysiological studies in tissues isolated from rodents.
  • Maintains records and files of experimental data; performs data analysis and authors manuscripts.
  • Contributes to computational modeling studies in the lab through direct or collaborative involvement.
  • Actively participates in scientific presentation and discussions within and outside the institute and engages in developing new research strategies where appropriate; remains updated on pertinent literature.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering or Biophysics.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledgeable in fluorescence microscopy, image acquisition and analysis as well as quantitative techniques applied to large data sets.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in electrophysiological techniques, cell culture and immunohistochemistry preferred.
