. DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Executive Director and Program Coordinator, conducts epidemiological surveillance for opioid-related issues in Livingston County as part of the Wake Up Livingston initiative. Compiles, analyzes and interprets these data for the community and others in the department. Performs related work as assigned.
DUTIES
Collects, compiles, analyzes and evaluates data to assess opioid-related issues within Livingston County. Selects appropriate methods of statistical and quantitative analysis to identify demographic, geographic, cultural and other variables linked to the incidence of opioid use and abuse within Livingston County. Develops epidemiological assessments and applies epidemiological principles to the incidence of opioid use and abuse within Livingston County.
Maintains epidemiological databases for Wake Up Livingston and shares and disseminates data as needed. Interacts directly with Wake Up Livingston, Livingston County Health Department, Livingston County Community Mental Health Authority and Community Mental Health Partnership of Southeastern Michigan to provide data updates, trends, use and abuse statistics. Prepares reports for Michigan Department of Community Health using local data and prepares reports from state data for local use. Insures timeliness of all related reporting to State. Develops, prepares and contributes to publications as needed. Promotes evidenced-based interventions and shares with practitioners and community stakeholders. Operates standard office equipment, including a computer terminal. May be required to attend meetings at various Livingston County affiliates. Performs related work as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of epidemiology.
Etiology of general substance use, misuse and abuse.
Standard disease control practices and epidemiology.
Applied statistics and quantitative analysis.
Specialized computer applications related to the work.
Applicable State and Local standards, requirements and guidelines.
Ability to:
perform detailed and complex research using analytic techniques.
Interpret, apply and explain complex regulations.
Train others in work procedures and facilitate learning of data obtained.
Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on work with minimal supervision.
Use tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
Prepare clear, concise and effective correspondence and other written materials.
Organize and maintain accurate files and records.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Physical Demands:
Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a typical office setting and community environments where staff are assigned and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone. Duties may require handling of blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials. These requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.
EXPERIENCE:
Possession of a Masters of Public Health Degree in Epidemiology or its equivalent. One (1) to two (2) years of experience working in a public health agency.
